As a teenager he played saxophone in a Swing band and piano his entire life.
Ken Inouye donated his grandmother's 100-year-old Japanese-language family Bible to the USS Daniel Inouye. The Bible was sealed inside the ship's mast.

The USS Daniel Inouye (DDG 118) was home ported at Pearl Harbor. The official Ship's Christening ceremony was held December 8, 2021.
